Gewiss Stadium

Bergamo, Bergamo 23,439 capacity

The Gewiss Stadium is the modernised home of Atalanta BC, located in the Colognola district of Bergamo, Lombardy. The stadium holds 23,439 spectators and has been Atalanta's home since 1928, when it was inaugurated as the Stadio di Bergamo. The ground has undergone multiple phases of renovation over the decades, with the most transformative redevelopment beginning in 2019 and completed in phases through 2023. Powered by Atalanta's extraordinary sporting success, the renovated stadium now features four covered stands with steep, close-in terracing that generates an exceptionally intense atmosphere. Naming rights are held by Gewiss, an electrical components manufacturer based in the Bergamo province.

Atalanta's modern era represents one of Italian football's most remarkable stories. Under coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who took charge in 2016, the club transformed into one of Europe's most entertaining and tactically innovative teams, qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in 2019 and reaching the quarter-finals in 2019-20 with a swashbuckling attacking brand of football. They later won the 2023-24 UEFA Europa League, defeating Bayer Leverkusen in the final to claim the biggest prize in the club's history. The Gewiss Stadium has hosted Champions League group stage football and the city of Bergamo - already famed for its artistic heritage and the beautiful upper city of Citta Alta - has added European football glory to its cultural identity.

The renovation of the Gewiss Stadium has been lauded as one of Italy's finest recent stadium redevelopments. The four new stands are steep and compact, creating extraordinary acoustics and ensuring supporters are extremely close to the pitch. The ground has been expanded progressively and further development may increase capacity further. Bergamo's passionate, working-class football culture - often contrasted with the wealthier Milan clubs just 50 kilometres away - makes the Gewiss Stadium one of Serie A's most vibrant matchday destinations. Atalanta's consistent Champions League campaigns have brought the stadium to the attention of European football supporters who have discovered one of Italy's most authentic and compelling football communities.
