Preston North End Stadium

Deepdale

Preston 23,408 capacity

Preston North End FC plays at Deepdale, located in the Deepdale area of Preston, a city in Lancashire in northwest England. With a capacity of approximately 23,404 spectators, Deepdale has been Preston's home since 1875 — making it one of England's oldest continuously used football grounds. The current stadium features four covered, modern stands completed through phased redevelopment in the 1990s and 2000s, replacing the original terraced areas with comfortable, contemporary facilities. Deepdale holds the additional historic distinction of being considered one of the birthplaces of organised professional football — Preston North End were founding members of the Football League in 1888.

Preston North End holds one of the most remarkable records in English football history. The club won the first-ever Football League title in 1888–89 without losing a match — the original "Invincibles" who completed an entire season unbeaten — and also won the FA Cup that season, achieving the first-ever double in English football. That 1888–89 season, with players including John Goodall and Nick Ross, established Preston as the original dominant force in organised English football, and Deepdale is the ground where that extraordinary history began. The National Football Museum, which celebrates football's history, was originally housed at Preston specifically because of the city's foundational role.

Deepdale's modern redevelopment has been funded through the Tom Finney Stand (named after Preston's legendary winger and long-serving club servant), the Bill Shankly Kop, and other named stands that honour the club's extraordinary heritage. These naming tributes demonstrate how Preston North End draws on its remarkable history while providing contemporary facilities for Championship football. The National Museum of Football ultimately moved to Manchester, but Preston's historic significance to football remains unquestioned. As Preston pursues promotion under their current ownership, Deepdale provides a well-maintained and historically resonant Championship venue.
